With majority of the teams have played a minimum of six matches in IPL 2020 so far, the season is close to its mid-season transfer in season 13. The BCCI came up with an innovative idea of a mid-season transfer last year when they allowed franchises to internally trade uncapped players. However, no team used their right. This season the apex body has expanded and the capped player will also be a part of mid-season transfers. Meanwhile, there are also reports that SRH or CSK might go for Ajinkya Rahane after Delhi Capitals has not used his services so far in the tournament.

A player is not eligible for the transfer is he has played a minimum of two games for his current team. With Rahane having played none so far this season and possibly staying on the bench for Delhi Capitals for the rest of the season, he becomes eligible for the transfer. He along with many other players from various franchises will be up for grabs in the transfer.

Sunrisers Hyderabad and Chennai Super Kings have shown interest in buying the Indian-middle-order batsman Both CSK and SRH have had problems with their middle-order throughout the season which is why, they are keen on getting Rahane as a part of their squad.

Meanwhile, A Delhi Capitals official has thrown more light on the matter. He told ANI that since Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shaw has been performing well for the franchise this season, Rahane has not got his chances.

“You have to understand that whatever is being said on social media cannot be the criteria for team selection. Rahane is a brilliant player and brings in a lot of experience with him. But the simple point is that Dhawan and Shaw have been outstanding at the top.”

The official further said that Rahane will have to wait for his chance given that Shaw and Shikhar has been performing really well for Delhi Capitals this season.

“You do not fix something that isn’t broken. Also, you would realise we have looked to continue with players who we believe in over the last two seasons. Dhawan and Shaw are proven performers for us. Rahane will have to wait for his turn to be honest,” the official  said.

The official further said that Rahane is an integral part of the Delhi Capitals set-up and has been guiding with his experience in the dressing room.

“He is an integral part of the team, and he wasn’t brought in with the idea of trading him mid-season. Whatever be said on the outside, he has been excellent with the team and has looked to give his input wherever possible,” added the official.

Ajinkya Rahane was traded by Delhi Capitals before the start of IPL 2020. Delhi’s latest win was against the Rajasthan Royals, a franchisee for which Rahane has played over 10 seasons. In 2019, he played 14 IPL matches for the Royals and scored 393 runs at an average of 32.75. He also led the team briefly before Steve Smith replaced him as the captain of the side.
