David Warner’s Sunrisers Hyderabad lost two of their last three games chasing, which has not been their formulae for success over the years. The latest defeat against Kings XI Punjab came as a result of a batting collapse. They were chasing the lowest target in this IPL and within that they failed after being 56 for no loss to being 100 for 3 requiring 26 off 24 balls. They lost seven wickets for 14 runs to be bowled out for 114 amid some unbelievable visuals

Warner after the game said that they did take the game on enough in the second half, which is why they ended losing the game. He further said that it was disappointing the way they lost the game.

“It was very disappointing. Obviously, we didn’t get the job done, probably complacent in the middle (overs), we didn’t take the game on enough like we did in the previous game. I think we probably felt that we were going to get the runs easily, and then we sort of let the balls get ahead of the runs. That’s what happens in a game of cricket. If you give the opposition a sniff, it (the game) can get taken from you very fast,” Warner said.

Should Have Read the Wicket Better- David Warner

The SRH skipper further that they should have been able to read the changing nature of the wicket in the second half.

“It (pitch) slowed down but the outfield got very wet. So from that point of view, you should know, as a batter, some of the conditions. The ball was going to be slow off the wicket, so you just have to assess that. Hard lengths were obviously going to be hard to hit. When you’re chasing a total that’s very achievable and you are ahead in the game, you should be able to manipulate the field, rotate strike, get ones – we just didn’t do that,” added Warner.

This season has not been the same for David Warner with the bat, unlike his previous years. He has scored 370 runs so far from 11 games at an average of 37 and a strike rate under 130. He has scored two fifties so far in this IPL.
