Amidst the ongoing news of the potential bio bubble breach by five Indian players, another news coming in is of a Delhi based nurse allegedly approaching a player who featured in the recently concluded 2020 IPL for inside information regarding the playing XI of the match since she wanted to place a bet.

Betting and spot-fixing have been a distinct part of the IPL since a while now, In the year 2013 three Rajasthan Royals bowlers Shanthakumaran Sreesanth, Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila were arrested on allegations of spot-fixing, after which the trio faced suspension from the BCCI. In the following years, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals also faced a two suspension for involvement in betting activities by their key officials Gurunath Meiyappan and Raj Kundra during the 2013 season.

This time the matter is fresh, the nurse in question appraoched the player asking for information about a match to be played on 30th September 2020 so she could use the information to place a bet. It is also being said that the player who was approached is currently not a part of the Indian team but happened to represent them two years ago. On being drawn nearer, he reported the issue to the BCCI Anti-Corruption Unit.

BCCI ACU boss Ajith Singh Confirms Approach By Nurse During 2020 IPL

The player first met the nurse three years ago who claimed to be his fan, likewise in 2020 the player again had approached the nurse regarding precautions to be taken during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is at this point, the nurse asked for information from the player regarding the IPL match on 30th September.

On being drawn closer, the BCCI ACU boss Ajith Singh affirmed that such occurrence did occur during the 2020 IPL however it has now been shut. Ajith Singh said the person who appraoched the player was unprofessional and did not have linkage to the betting world.

“The player had reported to us during the IPL. We investigated it, and the matter is closed now. The person who approached the player was unprofessional (did not have connections with any betting syndicate), and there was no further lead found.

“We investigated thoroughly. The accused knew the player. When the player reported the matter, we took all the details. Later, we called her for questioning too, but nothing was found from her. The matter is closed,” he told the paper.

All the communication between the player and nurse happened in an online conversation and not during a face to face meet up. The player reacted with angry emojis when he was asked about inside information by the nurse after which the nurse apparently promised to delete all chats but despite this the player went on to report the incident to the BCCI Anti-Corruption unit.

“He said he did not know where she lived or worked. During an online conversation, she told the player that she wanted to bet, and for that, she wanted to know about the match and playing XI,” a BCCI source said.
