From 99 for two to lose the game while chasing 168, Chennai Super Kings batsmen showed no intent against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium. Former India cricketer Irfan Pathan reacted to CSK’s humiliating defeat as they fell short of 10 runs.

Earlier in the day, Rahul Tripathi’s 81 powered Kolkata to 167. The Knight Riders got 93 in their first 10 overs and just 74 in their final 10. Losing five wickets back to back in the death including that of Tripathi didn’t fall in line as Chennai Super Kings made a superb comeback.

Chasing 168 runs, Chennai Super Kings were 90 for one, leading the run chase at the halfway mark with Shane Watson and Ambati Rayudu looking fluent at the crease. But then suffered an incredible slowdown after losing the two of them in back-to-back overs.

Their middle-order has been a huge concern in this tournament. It was all well and good when the two openers finished off the chase against Punjab in the previous match. But today, they needed contributions in the middle. That didn’t happen. And so once again, a run chase has gone terribly wrong.

Kolkata made an incredible comeback – Irfan Pathan

KKR, for their part, did a sterling job. Especially the spin duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. Narine only came into bowl in the 12th over and he found his rhythm today. Chakravarthy’s variations also proved incredibly hard to score off, and he even managed to knock over MS Dhoni which was a turning point of the game.

Reacting to a shocking loss, Irfan Pathan stated that it was an incredible comeback from Kolkata Knight Riders. The way Sunil Narine bowl in the middle-overs, he took the game away from Chennai Super Kings.
