IPL 2020 Likely To Be Called Off – Report

The whole world has come together to fight the pandemic coronavirus which has taken lives of more than 14000 people across the globe. China and Italy along with Spain have been the most affected places and there has been a complete lockdown in many parts of the world including India to contain the spread of the deadly virus.

India have also witnessed a stark rise in the number of positive cases in India in the last few days with almost ten people reported dead. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also postponed the forthcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) postponing the league until April 15 which was scheduled to start from March 29.

Meanwhile, recent reports have emerged that tournament might get delayed with situations getting worse each passing day. While the fans are keenly waiting for the COVID-19 to settle down so that the organisers can go on with IPL 2020 but the chances are very gloomy.

According to a report in the Hindu, BCCI is hoping to host the cash-rich league anytime before the window which is until May 31. However, the report further added that the apex body and franchises have suggested that the chance of hosting the tournament considering the situation looks extremely bleak.

But BCCI has decided to take a slow and steady approach before taking the final call and going by the report a final decision can come in the second week of April. The stakeholders are likely to meet later today via a conference call to decide on the future course of action as almost all the states have gone into lockdown to contain the disease from spreading.
