Delhi Capitals got off to the worst possible start in their first game of IPL 2020. An error in judging a run cost Shikhar Dhawan lose his wicket in the very fourth delivery of the Delhi innings.

There was so much talk regarding this high voltage clash and the preparation that Delhi has made to the build-up of this game.

Delhi Capitals arguably has the best India contingent of players among all the IPL sides. Plus they have roped in two experienced players in the form of Ajinkya Rahane and Ravichandran Ashwin. However, they got the worst of starts after Kings XI Punjab asked them to bat first after winning the toss.

Dhawan gets run out

Mohammed Shami drew the first blood with a timely bouncer. The tall and lanky bowler bowled a bouncer to Shikhar Dhawan, who tried to pull the ball but only reached as far as Punjab wicket-keeper KL Rahul.

Dhawan thought there was a single on offer and dashed his way down the track only to watch his partner motionless at the other end. He threw the ball to Krishnappa Gowtam who got rid off the bails and completed the run-out.

Mohammed Shami Takes Two In One Over

Meanwhile, soon after Delhi lost Shikhar Dhawan in the very first over, Mohammed Shami accounted for Prithvi Shaw’s wicket in the fourth over of Delhi’s innings.

All in all, Shami accounted for two wickets in his second over. He dismissed Shaw in the third ball of his innings and Shimron Hetmyer in the final delivery.

Delhi’s much-decorated batting line-up was jolted early by Mohammed Shami alone. He bowled terrific bouncers and also made the ball swing. Delhi lost three wickets inside the powerplay with Shikhar Dhawan, Shimron Hetmyer and Prithvi Shaw all getting dismissed.

Meanwhile, Kings XI Punjab started where they left off in 2014. They made the finals under George Bailey losing to KKR in the final.
