In an intriguing contest in match 2 of IPL 2020, Delhi Capitals vs Kings XI Punjab in Dubai, Delhi beat Punjab in the Super Over after the game ended in a tie in the first 40 overs. Punjab were unbeaten in the previous five matches that they played in the UAE in 2014. However, in a brand new season they get off on a note of defeat.

With 13 runs required in the final over, Marcus Stoinis dismissed Mayank Agarwal (89) and Chris Jordan (5) as the match finished in a tie. Chasing 158 to win, KXIP were well placed at 30 for no loss in the first five overs. However, rather drastically, they were reduced to 55 for 5 in 10 overs. This built the tension around in the Delhi Capitals vs Kings XI Punjab encounter. However, Agarwal was set at one end and with Krishnappa Gowtham added an important 46-run stand. Chris Jordan then joined Agarwal as the duo added 56 together but couldn’t quite take Kings XI over the finish line.

Then in the Super Over, Kagiso Rabada struck in two back to back deliveries as Kings XI scored only two. Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant then took Delhi Capitals to a win.

Delhi Capitals vs Kings XI Punjab Match  Story

Earlier in the Delhi Capitals vs Kings XI Punjab encounter, Punjab won the toss and opted to bowl first. Mohammed Shami bowled a spell of 3 for 15 dismissing Prithvi Shaw, Shimron Heymyer and Shreyas Iyer.

With Delhi struggling at 87 for 5, in walked Marcus Stoinis and scored a quickfire 21ball-53 to help Delhi restore control. He hit seven fours and three sixes in his innings as his team scored 57 off the last three to reach 157 for 8 after their 20 overs. After his heroics with the bat, he picked up 2 for 29 and was rightly adjudged the Man of the Match. Meanwhile, Ravichandran Ashwin was taken off the field after he coped up with a shoulder injury.

This is the first-ever Super Over between the two teams and the 10th tied game in the IPL overall. Both KXIP and DC have been involved in tied games in the past. While KXIP played one tied game in 2010 against CSK, Delhi played two (against RCB and KKR).
