Delhi Capitals beat Rajasthan Royals by 46 runs in match 23 of IPL 2020 in Sharjah on Friday. In the process, Delhi have moved upto the top of the points table once again with five wins from six games. Meanwhile, the IPL campaign is all going wrong for the Royals at the moment as they slip to their fourth straight loss in six games. They are seventh in the points table with problems mounting for the side. More about the DC vs RR talking points in detail below.

1) 200 Not Required in Sharjah

After scoring 228 against KKR in Sharjah in their previous match at this venue, Delhi Capitals scored 184 the second time round against Rajasthan Royals. This was only the second innings at this venue where 200 was not breached by a batting side. As it turned out, the score proved to e enough as the Royals were bowled out for 138, falling 46 short of the target. “The wicket did slow down a bit,” said Steve Smith after the game. This game was played on the second of the two pitches in Sharjah, one which was made to assist the bowlers. The pitch slowed down considerably in the second innings with the ball stopping from coming onto the bat as easily as it did in the first two games.

2) Delhi’s Spin to Win Mantra

Realising that the pitch slowed up in the second inning, Delhi skipper Shreyas Iyer introduced spin in the very second over of their defence. It resulted in the dismissal of Jos Buttler as R Ashwin dismissed him once again. Harshal Patel with his changeups also proved difficult to score off for the Rajasthan batsmen with them needing to score at over 10 run per over. Axar Patel proved a handful on the wicket as well. He bowled a spell of giving away just eight runs and taking a wicket.

3) Rajasthan Derailing Early in the Chase

The wicket of Jos Buttler, in the third over of their chase was a huge setback for the side. Yashaswi Jaiswal (34 off 36) ate up too many balls which increased the pressure on Steve Smith (24 off 17) to which he succumbed ultimately trying to force the pace. After Sanju Samson’s wicket (5 off 9), Royals were truly out of the game as early as inside the first 10 overs.

Putting up matchwinning performances match after match, Delhi is proving the side to beat this season, Their Indian core of batsmen are performing in every game with their two spinners alongside Kagiso Rabada proving too hot to handle for opposition teams. Marcus Stoinis has proved to be an impressive buy for the Capitals. This is his third franchise in three seasons in the IPL and one feels Stoinis has finally found his home in the IPL. 162 runs with the bat and five wickets with the ball in key stages for his team, Stoinis has made justice to the price tag of his.

Very unexpectedly, the Royals are going into a slumber after the kind of start they had in the tournament. They have tested all their possible options in the last four games but nothing has worked so far. With Ben Stokes available from their next game, it will be interesting to see if he makes an impact right from his first game. The Royals need a big turnaround of events to bring their campaign back on track.
