Parthiv Patel was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore outfit, the last time IPL was held in the UAE. In between, he left RCB in 2015, played for a few more sides and came back to the RCB in 2018. Now an experienced member of the side, the RCB wicket-keeper is aiming to be a part of the team’s leadership group and help Kolhi in the process.

RCB is yet to get their hands on the IPL trophy after promising so much every year. In an exclusive chat with Hindustan Times, Parthiv opened up on how he is aiming to be a part of the leadership group and also highlights RCB’ preparations for the season.

Parthiv Patel eyeing a leadership role

“We’ve played here in 2014 but six years is a long time. The world is different, nothing is the same,” Parthiv said to start off his interaction.

“Leading the side comes naturally, there are a lot of young players (in the RCB squad), who are quite comfortable chatting with me. I try and help them out, make sure they are in good space, that’s something you have to do as a senior player, help out the junior guys,” adds Parthiv regarding how he is aiming for a leadership role in the side.

Interestingly, Parthiv Patel led Gujarat to the Ranji Trophy title back in 2017. He also opened up regarding his role for the side. Someone who invariably gives good starts to his team, the RCB wicket-keeper batsman scored 373 runs at a strike rate of 139.17 and will look to do the same this year as well.

“My role? I’m a wicket-keeper batsman, I’ll keep wickets and bat normally,” said Parthiv.

Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers Bangalore are based in Dubai and will start their IPL 2020 campaign against Sunrisers Hyderabad on September 21. Virat Kohli-led side has been training in full swing and will be aiming to end their drought in IPL.
