IPL 2020: Petition Filed Asking Foreign Players To Be Isolated Filed In Bombay High Court

A civil Public interest litigation (PIL)  has been filed at the Bombay High Court asking the IPL 2020 foreign players and support staffs to be isolated on a mandatory basis. The petition has been filed in the wake of the coronavirus which has halted the normal lifestyle all over the world causing major concerns.

Two businessmen from Ulhasnagar — have filed the petition in the Bombay High Court. According to a report in India Today, the petitioners themselves do not have any tickets to the matches but were concerned for the safety of everyone when a large crowd would gather at various stadiums across the country to view the matches.

“The PIL also sought that the people going to the stadium should wear masks, players should avoid contact and handshakes and that everyone should be checked while leaving the stadium by expert medical practitioners,” the report said.

The coronavirus pandemic has stopped many global events. In the wake of the threat, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also postponed the forthcoming Indian Premier League until April 15, which was initially scheduled to commence from March 29. Notably, the apex body also called off the remaining two games of the ongoing ODI series between India and South Africa.

“The BCCI is concerned and sensitive about all its stakeholders, and public health in general, and it is taking all necessary steps to ensure that, all people related to IPL including fans have a safe cricketing experience,” said a press release.

The Government of India’s directive that the visas stand cancelled till April 15 amid the outbreak, the franchises were not keen to play without the overseas cricketers, who has been the star attractions in the IPL since its birth.
