Indian Premier League (IPL) will finally be taking place later this year in UAE. After T20 world cup was postponed BCCI finally got a window for IPL and it is all set to be played between September-November 8. Former Indian cricketer Gautam Gambhir assumes this IPL season will be bigger than the previous 12 editions.
Gambhir was one of the most successful captains in the IPL as led Kolkata Knight Riders to 2 titles. The former KKR skipper pointed out that the 13th season of the IPL will change the mood of the entire nation.
He said, “It does not matter where it goes but if it (IPL) goes to UAE, it’s a great venue to play cricket in any format and plus most importantly I think it’s going to change the mood of the nation as well”.
IPL 2020 was originally scheduled to start from March 29 earlier this year. Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic changed everything and the season had to be indefinitely postponed. Gambhir added that this year IPL will be more than any individual or team milestones as it will bring happiness to the entire nation during these trying times.
“It’s not about which franchise wins or which player scores runs or which guy takes a wicket, its simply changing the mood of the nation. So this IPL probably will be bigger than the rest of the IPLs because I think this is for the nation”, Gambhir said on the Cricket Connected Show on Star Sports.
Meanwhile, everyone is now anticipating the official announcement and the IPL 2020 schedule. An IPL governing council meeting is scheduled for next week which might reveal everything. All the IPL franchises have also been updated about IPL taking place in United Arab Emirates this year.
