IPL 2021: Aakash Chopra Slams KKR’s Team Selection After Loss To Punjab Kings

KKR’s loss to Punjab Kings have put the team in a spot of bother for their playoff qualification inn IPL 2021. KKR’s loss to PBKS was their seventh in this IPL campaign so far. Meanwhile, former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra has slammed the team management for their team selection against Punjab Kings. KKR had Andre Russell and Lockie Ferguson unavailable for the game due to injury concerns.

Slamming their team selection and the team management, Aakash Chopra said that team is on a different tangent with the selection of their playing XI.

“KKR are on a different tangent altogether. Lockie Ferguson is not available, and Russell is anyway out. So what should you ideally do? Play a bowler, right? But they say no, we’ll play a batsman. You play Tim Seifert, who is a wicketkeeper, who is an opener. You don’t have place for him at the top of the order and you end up playing him after Dinesh Karthik. Where do you play him?” Aakash Chopra questioned.

Aakash Chopra further questioned the logic behind keeping the likes of Ben Cutting and Shakib Al Hasan on the bench. While Cutting is yet to make his debut for KKR, Shakib has been warming the benches in the UAE leg.

“Whatever team you have picked, for the 20th over you have Venkatesh Iyer and for the 19th you have Shivam Mavi. In the previous match you played Sandeep Warrier at the death, in the match before that you played Prasidh Krishna. If this is how you’re going to treat the players, changing one after the other in every match, it shows there are certain people who are indispensable and certain people who are dispensable,” Chopra said.

KKR have their matches against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals remaining. They need to win both these games and hope that a few results go their way in order to make it to the playoffs.
