The departure of the experienced Shane Watson from the Chennai Super Kings franchise has left a void in their squad. What surprised many of us was that Chennai only released Watson which was obvious since he had announced his retirement from franchise cricket at the conclusion of the 2020 IPL in the UAE.

With no Watson, Chennai Super Kings may look to procure a quality top-order batsman in their line up. As of now, we could think of two players CSK could look at, first being Steve Smith who was released by Rajasthan Royals and the other being Dawid Malan.
If Fleming decides to go with Malan in the side, the Chennai Super Kings could well have a perfect top 5 for the 2021 season. Opening the batting with Dawid Malan and Ruturaj Gaikwad with Faf Du Plessis at 3 followed by Suresh Raina at 4 could prove to be a lethal batting combo.

The Mumbai Indians franchise has always believed in carrying quality backups throughout the season. They’re one franchise that simply doesn’t shy away from benching quality players just so that they can come in handy when one of their first XI players gets injured.

Years back Mumbai Indians bought Glenn Maxwell for a million dollars only to bench him for the entire season followed by which they bought Chris Lynn as a backup for Quinton De Kock who was again benched for the entire season.
Now with Mumbai Indians releasing as many as 4 foreign players from their squad ahead of the 2021 IPL auction, we might just expect Mumbai Indians to bid for Dawid Malan who may go on to serve as a backup for Kieron Pollard or Quinton De Kock in the side. The Virat Kohli-led franchise released a bunch of players from their side ahead of the 2021 IPL auction which also includes Aaron Finch who wasn’t really in his best of nicks. Now with RCB releasing Finch, an option that appears in front for a place in the top order is Dawid Malan.
