The Board of Control for Cricket Indian (BCCI) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) have reached an agreement that both the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Caribbean Premier League (CPL) can take place without one overlapping into the other.

With BCCI rescheduling the remainder of IPL 2021 in September-October, the dates were closing with the already scheduled CPL. Thus, BCCI had made a request to the CPL organisers to prepone the tournament by a week to avail the West Indies cricketers in IPL 2021 in the UAE.

The organisers of the CPL have acceded to a request of the BCCI and advanced the dates of the CPL so that the IPL schedule can be squeezed into the limited window available after September 14, when the Indian team will be free from the England tour. The BCCI secretary has also spoken to his counterparts in the CWI, following which the Caribbean cricket authorities have agreed to tweak the CPL schedule.

“CWI is doing our best to help facilitate a smooth transition from CPL to IPL, without a conflicting overlap,” Ricky Skerritt, the president of CWI, told Cricbuzz confirming the proposed changes in the schedule.

CPL 2021 to take place between August 25 to September 15

As per reports in Cricbuzz, CPL 2021 will now take place from August 25 to September 15. Originally, it was scheduled to start on August 28 and run until September 19 in St Kitts & Nevis. The organisers are expected to come up with the revised schedule soon.

The revamped schedule will now enable BCCI to restart the unfinished league around September 18-19 before the cricketers shift focus on the ICC T20 World Cup 2021.
