IPL 2021: How Can Mumbai Indians Qualify For The Playoffs?

Mumbai Indians

After Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) thrilling victory over the Rajasthan Royals (RR) in match 54 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) they have almost secured their spot in the IPL 2021 playoffs.

However, defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI) won’t be very happy with KKR’s victory over the Sanju Samson led- Rajasthan Royals as their chances of qualifying is almost next to impossible at the moment.

Mumbai Indians (MI) will have to win by around 171 runs after scoring 200 to get past KKR’s net run rate (NRR). On the other hand, if they chase, they can’t go beyond KKR’s NRR.

KKR beat Rajasthan Royals by 86 runs

The opening-duo of Shubman Gill and Venkentash Iyer had a partnership of 94 runs, which gave KKR a good steady start for the middle order batsmen like Eoin-morgan, and Rahul Tripathi to come and fire straight away which they did.

The Rajasthan Royals got to the worst start possible. Yashasvi Jaiswal got out on the 3rd ball of the first over off Shakib Al Hasan playing a very unnecessary reverse sweep shot which he missed totally. Soon after, Sanju Samson departed in his second ball, when KKR skipper took a sharp catch at short mid-wicket.

Recovering from an injury, Lockie Ferguson took 2 crucial wickets in his first over itself of Liam Livingstone and youngster Anuj Rawat. Shivam Mavi then bounce off the block to dismiss Glenn Phillips and Shivam Dube in the same over before Varun Chakravarthy trapped Chris Morris right in front.

Rahul Tewatia provided a late impetus with a 44-run knock but it was not enough to take the Royals home. They were eventually bundled out for 85 runs, falling 86 runs short to bow out of the tournament.
