KKR bear RCB by 9 wickets in their first game of the second leg of IPL 2021. They need to win potentially all their matches and they did start with a win. In the process, they jumped upto the fifth position in the points table and secured a positive net-run rate as well. Andre Russell after taking three wickets with the ball. He bowled a spellof 3 for 9 dismissing AB De Villiers for a golden duck.

Eoin Morgan at the post-match presser spoke about Andre Russell’s promotion at number three. Though he was not required with the ball, with Venkatesh Iyer (41* off 27) finishing off the game in the 10th over.

“Given the way that we played today and the position that we found ourselves in, we had an opportunity to really affect our run-rate position. Hence Russ (Andre Russell) was sent up the order,” the KKR captain explained.

Andre Russell & Varun Chakravarty After KKR’s Win

With Monday’s win, KKR moved up to No. 5 in the points table and have a net run-rate of +0.110. Eoin Morgan also opened upon Andre Russell’s spell in the middle overs. He took three wickets and did not give the opposition any momentum in the middle overs.

“The match-ups we tried today really worked. The pitch, the way it played throughout the whole innings, was probably more seamer-friendly even though Varun Chakravarthy had an unbelievable day. It lent itself to seamers with, probably, bigger size boundaries than any other here in the UAE” said Morgan.

Andre Russell dismissed AB De Villiers (0), Srikar Bharat (16) and Mohammed Suraj (8) as RCB was bowled out for a paltry 92.

KKR’s next two matches are against Mumbai Indians (September 23) and Chennai Super Kings (September 26). Both the matches will be played in Abu Dhabi.
