IPL 2021: Michael Slater Leaves The Bubble; Escapes to The Maldives

Michael Slater exits bubble

It has been reported that former Australian cricketer turned commentator Michael Slater has left the bubble and escaped to the Maldives. He withdrew himself from the commentary panel and therefore the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021. The IPL 2021 thus is getting into disarray after a series of unwanted incidents to start off a new week.

The beginning of the week has not been great for the cricketing world as two players from the Kolkata Knight Riders camp, Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier have tested positive for the COVID-19. Three non-playing members of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) also tested positive. This has made the fans panic.

Michael Slater Leaves IPL Bio-Bubble

According to the reports, some Australian players, coaches and officials are nervous after the spike in the number of coronavirus cases in India. Some players want to leave the bubble and keen to follow the path taken by Slater and travel to the Maldives as the situation in India is going gloomy.

Meanwhile, it is also reported that Pat Cummins had contacted his manager Neil Maxwell and said that he was fine. The Australian fast bowler also commented on the way the situation was taken care of by the officials.

“Pat is perfectly fine. Everyone else is fine. Two guys have it. There is no issue. They still feel quite safe and commend the way it has been handled. They are pretty relaxed about it. There are no alarm bells around it, to be frank,” Maxwell said.

Already a couple of Australians have returned home because of the ravage done by the virus in India. Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson, Andrew Tye, Lian Livingstone withdrew themselves from the ongoing IPL. Zampa even spoke about the bio bubble. However, later he clarified that his statement was misinterpreted.

The fate of the tournament is a matter of concern. Several cases are coming out from several teams. The Board of Control for Cricket in India is yet to clarify the situation and the fate of the tournament.
