Royal Challengers Bangalore’s win against Punjab Kings this Sunday means RCB has become the 3rd team after Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals to Qualify for the IPL 2021 Playoffs.

Thus it is left to 4 teams, Mumbai Indians (MI), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), and the Punjab Kings (PBKS) fighting for the fourth spot. KKR is ahead of everyone after their recent victory over SRH who’s already out of the playoffs race.

Here are how the qualifications chances look like for the four teams in contention for the final spot in the IPL 2021 Playoffs.

#1. The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) are placed at the 4th spot with 12 points under their belt with one game to play. Their chances of at least trying to finish in the fourth spot have sharply risen to 62.5% and they have the best net run rate amongst those in the race, they would feel they are inches away from finishing in the top 4.

They have a 37.5% chance of grabbing the last spot without a tie with any other team. If KKR wins their last encounter against the Rajasthan Royals they will certainly qualify for the playoffs. But, if the Mumbai Indians win their last two encounters it’s going to be all dependent on the Net Run Rate (NRR).

#2. Punjab Kings (PBKS) are next below KKR on the IPL 2021 points table currently. One of the three teams at 10 points, the PBKS will surely have to look at their net run rate as they cannot qualify without that. They need to win their last encounter against in-form Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and hope MI beats RR and RR beats KKR while SRH beats MI.

It’s a complicated calculation. If any one of these does not happen, the only option the Punjab Kings will be left with is to come back to India.

#3. Rajasthan Royals (RR) currently sixth, placed better than other teams as they have an extra game in hand have 25% chance of grabbing the fourth spot and a 37.5% chance to be tied at the fourth spot.

They could even if they beat KKR and lose to defending champions Mumbai Indians.

#4. Defending Champions Mumbai Indians (MI) are the lowest among the contenders for the playoffs, currently placed at the 7th position in the points table. but like RR have an extra game, which means their chances of trying are 37.5%, but they have only a 12.5% chance of making the fourth spot without any tie with other teams over points.

If MI win both their remaining games against RR and SRH, and RR beats KKR, they will qualify for the playoffs without any tie.
