IPL 2021: Sanju Samson Sanctioned For Slow-Over Rate Against Punjab Kings

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined for maintaining a slow over-rate during their game against Punjab Kings in Dubai on Tuesday. Incidentally, Rajasthan pulled off a thrilling last-over win to pocked two crucial points as we near the business end of IPL 2021.

Samson was fined INR 12 lakh as it was his first offence in the tournament. The wicket-keeper batsman accepted his offence. thus, there was no need for a formal hearing.

“Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their VIVO Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 match against Punjab Kings at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai on September 21,” IPL said in a statement. 


Sanju Samson showers praise on his bowlers after a thrilling finish

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson lavishly praised his bowlers after they defending 10 runs from 15 deliveries against a star-studded Punjab line-up. Mustafizur Rahman bowled exceedingly well in the 19th over before Kartik Tyagi won the game for the Royals defending four in the final overs.

Speaking at the end of the game, Sanju Samson said:

“Somewhere we had that fight left. We knew we had some special bowlers. Kept Mustafizur’s overs for the end. Tyagi was confident with his yorkers, especially wide yorkers. Executed them well against the new batters. And we had top fielding plans for every batter, we have planned till the last batter.”

Chasing 186 runs, KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal added 120 runs for the first wicket to Punjab on track. However, Rajasthan made a superb comeback in the final two overs to win the game from the jaws of the defeat.
