Chasing 186 to win, Punjab Kings lost by two runs needing four to win in the final over. The side had six wickets in hand with the final over needing them four runs to win. Kartik Tyagi kept his cool and turned out to be his team’s hero. He gave onr run and picked up two wickets. In the process, the Royals picked themselves up to the fifth position in the points table.
Set to chase 186 to win, Punjab kings courtesy of their openers scored 120 runs in the first 12 overs. KL Rahul scored 49, while Mayank Agarwal scored 67. The side then lost wickets quickly with Kartik Tyagi bowling a gem of a final over to help his side win the game.
In many ways, Tyagi’s over outdone Arshdeep Singh’s fifer which he took in losing cause.
“It’s a tough one to swallow. We have been a team that has experienced games like these before. We need to see how we can handle pressure better. Trying to finish in the 18th over sometimes you go too hard and lose your way and let the opponents in. We haven’t learnt from previous mistakes. We will now try to come back stronger and win the next five games. We pulled things back quite nicely with the ball, kept taking wickets, which is very crucial in this format. Getting runs for me, Mayank and even Aiden in his first IPL game was important” said Punjab skipper KL Rahul.
The Twitterverse was left entertained in the manner in which Punjab Kings complicated their victory. They had their say as Punjab lived to rue their chances.
Here’s how Twitter reacted to Punjab Kings’ defeat
As for #RR When people say Their key players are missing I say it creates opportunities to open fresh doors #PBKSvRR #IPL2021 #CricitwithBadri

#RR made about 20 runs fewer than they should have, dropped 3 catches and looked like had surrendered the match. But they kept their nerve, fought till the end and won. Sensational last over by Kartik Tyagi!
