Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra while analyzing the Punjab Kings vs KKR contest said that he is unsure as to what is the best method that the team from the north should play with. Punjab are on 8points while KKR on 10. A defeat for Punjab Kings will almost end their playoff chances while KKR winning will better their chances for a final four finish.
Punjab Kings have only won a single game while chasing during this edition of the 2021 Indian Premier League. The win came against the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the first leg of the competition in Chennai. Aakash Chopra said that he is not very confident of the Punjab Kings winning the game while chasing. They lost a game from a potentially winning position against Rajasthan Royals as they failed to score four off the final over.
“I’m just as unsure as the Punjab franchise, what is the best way to go? But maybe with Rahul, Agarwal if he is fit and available and the class of Gayle, Markram and Pooran, maybe, yes they have plenty of explosive power in their batting department, so if a couple of them fire, they can chase big totals” said Chopra.

Meanwhile, former Protean pacer Dale Steyn said that Punjab Kings have not quite found their strong suit between bowling first and chasing.
“I’m as confused as they are sometimes. They are a wonderful team though and they should just go out there and express themselves. Chase or bat first, it’s pretty much the same thing for them, they just need to do it properly.” said Steyn.
Meanwhile, ahead of this clash, Chris Gayle has announced that he will exit the UAE bio-bubble to get some time and focus on his preparations for the T20 World Cup later in the year in UAE.
“Over the last few months, I have been a part of the CWI bubble, CPL bubble followed by the IPL bubble, and I wish to mentally recharge and refresh myself. I want to refocus on helping the West Indies in the T20 World Cup and would like to take a break in Dubai. My thanks to the Punjab Kings for giving me the time off. My wishes and hopes are with the squad always. All the very best for the games coming up,” Chris Gayle said.
Gayle has represented Punjab Kings in 10 matches this season scoring 193 runs at a strike rate of 125.32.
