IPL 2022: 3 Players Who Can Replace Jason Roy In Gujarat Titans

In a major blow to the Gujarat Titans, England batter Jason Roy has pulled out of the upcoming Indian Premier League 2022 season. He cited the challenge of staying in the tournament bubble for an extended period.

Jason Roy was signed by the Gujarat Titans for his base price of INR 2 crore (USD 266,000) at the IPL auctions. The 31-year old had a great outing recently in the Pakistan Super League. He was the leading run-scorer for his franchise Quetta Gladiators and could have proven to be a match-winner for the Titans in the IPL. However, now the Gujarat Titans are looking at his replacement for the upcoming IPL 2022 season.

In this article, we take a look at three players who could replace Jason Roy.

1. Martin Guptill

The Gujarat Titans franchise could look at Martin Guptill as the replacement option for Jason Roy. Guptill is second on the list of all-time leading T20I run-scorers. He has scored 3299 T20I runs for New Zealand at an average of 32.66 including two centuries.

The Kiwi batter also has a strike rate of over 135 in T20Is. Guptill could be useful for the Gujarat Titans to score runs at a brisk rate at the top of the order.

2. Colin Munro

Colin Munro is an explosive left-handed New Zealand batter. He has scored 1724 runs at an average of 31.34, including three centuries for New Zealand at the T20Is. Munro could also bat in the middle-order, and play the role of a finisher for the franchise.

He has been a part of the Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals franchise in the past. Colin Munro could be another option that the Gujarat Titans could look at as a replacement of Jason Roy for the IPL 2022 season.

3. Paul Stirling

The Gujarat Titans franchise could also look at Ireland batter Paul Stirling to replace Jason Roy in the team. Stirling has been in good form in the Pakistan Super League. Playing for the Islamabad United franchise, he has slammed 200 runs in 6 games, at an average of 33.33 and a strike rate of 176.99.

The Ireland batter also has a T20I century to his name. With Roy pulling out, Stirling can make his first appearance in the Indian Premier League.
