The eight existing Indian Premier League (IPL) franchises revealed their retention list. The newly added teams will pick three players apiece from the draft before we head to the IPL 2022 auction.

Initially, the mega auction was scheduled to take place in January, however, as it looks, the auction has now been postponed. The Indian Premier League Governing Council has decided to conduct the 2022 IPL mega auction in the first week of February after extending the deadline for the draft pick for the two new franchises.

A report on cricket.com has confirmed that the IPL Governing Council has decided to postpone the IPL 2022 auction due to the lack of clarity regarding a final decision on the CVC Sports’ participation in the IPL.

The British private equity and investment advisory firm, which acquired the Ahmedabad franchise for INR 5625 crore, has staked in a betting company that has raised about their association with the cash-rich league. They are yet to get the letter of intent from the BCCI and the matter in fact sits with Solicitor General of India, Tushar Mehta, and a clear decision hasn’t arrived yet.

The Ahmedabad-based franchise has not made much of progress and has only roped in former IMG director Peter Griffith. However, as things look, they are likely to get the nod by the end of this month.

IPL 2022 auction to be a two-day affair

The mega auction is likely to be a two-day affair just like in 2018 but it is likely to take place in a bigger way as the 10-team tournament returns. Meanwhile, the venue is yet to be decided but it looks like one between Bangalore and Hyderabad might host the IPL 2022 mega auction.
