Sunrisers Hyderabad pacer Umran Malik has taken the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season by storm with his fierce pace bowling. The speedster clocks 150kmph on a consistent basis, troubling even the best batters in the game. He has earned praise from pundits and fans for this rare bowling quality.
Umran Malik has 15 wickets to his name from nine matches, including a five-wicket haul in the tournament. He dismissed the likes of Wriddhiman Saha, Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, David Miller, and Abhinav Manohar to complete his maiden fifer. The pacer has been the key performer for the Sunrisers Hyderabad team in the Indian Premier League 2022 season so far.
Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has shared a hilarious take on how the batters should counter Umran Malik’s fearsome bowling. During a discussion on Star Sports, Gavaskar quipped that the batters should take a single, and go to the non-striker’s end while facing Umran Malik. He said, “Take a single and go to the non-striker’s end.”
Further, he added that the batters should also cover their stumps and not let Umran see them. “Don’t give him a sight of your stumps. Cover all three stumps so that when he runs in to bowl, he has got to see where is the off stump, where is the leg stump,” said Sunil Gavaskar.
Next for him is the Indian Team – Sunil Gavaskar on Umran Malik
Umran Malik’s fantastic performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League 2022 season, has made a strong case for his consideration for the senior India squad. Many have expressed the need to include Umran Malik into the Indian team. Former India cricketer Sunil Gavaskar also echoed the same thoughts.
While on commentary, Gavaskar expressed that Umran Malik will soon be a part of the Indian squad. As quoted by the Indian Express, he said, “The next for him (Umran), I think is the Indian team. He might not play in the XI because India have got Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and Umesh Yadav. So, he might not play.”
“But just travelling with the group, travelling with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, sharing the dressing room with them… just look what is going to happen to him!,” Sunil Gavaskar added.
