Kolkata Knight Riders appeared to be in the game even as Gujarat Titans were getting close to the slog overs in their pursuit of 180 at the Eden Gardens. The spinners still had their remaining overs, there was no dew, and KKR had a chance to defeat the reigning champions by two wickets.
KKR’s campaign in the IPL 2023, where they have now lost five of their last six games. It was further harmed by a major fielding error that left captain Nitish Rana stunned and bowler Andre Russell fuming.

Gujarat had to score 68 runs in the game’s final six overs after KKR’s spinners Varun Chakravarthy and Suyash Sharma pulled back the score for them in the middle overs.
However, Suyash was the target of back-to-back sixes from David Miller. He followed that up with a boundary from Vijay Shankar in an over that lasted 18 runs.
The big wicket was necessary for KKR because Miller has been GT’s most dangerous and reliable batter in the middle overs. Rana then reintroduced Russell for his third over.
Miller attempted to go for the big one when Russell tossed out a length delivery outside off in the 16th over. But he top-edged his Pull shot, causing the ball to deflect behind square and to the wrong side.
Suyash, the third man ran in while keeping his eyes on the ball. But he lost it in the darkness. He tried but he never even touched it. It was a major setback for KKR and Rana was completely shocked by the missed opportunity. While Russell was furious in his manic outburst.
Miller might not have had much of an impact after that, though, as Vijay Shankar’s 24-ball 51. Which included five maximums and two boundaries helped GT cross the finish line.
We probably needed 20 to 25 more runs. After the game, a disappointed Rana said, “I don’t think the result will be any different if we keep missing catches against big teams. KKR lost their sixth game in the current IPL 2023.”
