Punjab Kings defeated Mumbai Indians by 13 runs at Wankhede on Saturday, April 22 thanks to Arshdeep Singh’s heroics in the final over of the IPL 2023.

In the final over, pacer Arshdeep Singh maintained composure to help Punjab Kings defeat Mumbai Indians by an incredible 13 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Saturday. Arshdeep only allowed 2 runs and took 2 wickets in the final over, which Punjab Kings needed to score 15 runs.

With ferocious yorkers to the middle stump, Arshdeep castled Tilak Varma and Impact Player Nehal Wadhera in the final over of Mumbai’s innings, shattering the woodwork twice in two deliveries.

The left-handed pacer missed out on a hat-trick when he bowled a wide yorker to Jofra Archer, but he only conceded two runs in the final over to give Punjab a stunning victory that at one point seemed impossible. At the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai came close to completing their first successful 200-run chase thanks to Suryakumar Yadav’s 57 and Cameron Green’s 67.

But in the 18th over, Arshdeep made a third appearance and dismissed Suryakumar for nine runs.

With 13 wickets from seven games, Arshdeep also topped the IPL 2023 Purple Cap list.

Sam Curran earlier played an outstanding 29-ball-55 innings as Punjab Kings came back from a precarious situation to defeat Mumbai Indians with a score of 214 for 8. A 92-run partnership with Harpreet Bhatia (41 off 28 balls), who helped the eighth wicket, altered the game’s outcome as 131 runs came in the final 10 overs.

While getting off to a respectable start in his IPL debut this season (1/48 in 3 overs), Arjun Tendulkar was unable to sustain it as 69 runs were scored between overs 16 and 18 and he was eventually bowled out for 31. Jofra Archer and Cameron Green scored 13 and 25, respectively, in the 17th and 18th overs.

With his first IPL fifty of the year, Curran was undeniably the star for PBKS. Bhatia added 92 runs from 50 balls for the fifth wicket while making a 28-ball 41 (4x4s, 2×6) to help Punjab Kings reach their staggering total.

At the Wankhede Stadium, Curran led an impressive comeback for Punjab Kings after they lost ground in the middle overs by hitting five fours and four sixes.

Despite being 97/4 after 13 overs, Punjab Kings added 117 runs in the following seven overs, with 96 coming off the final 30 balls, thanks to outstanding performances from Curran, Bhatia, and Jitesh Sharma. Before being dismissed by Jason Behrendorff in the last over, Punjab’s wicketkeeper-batsman Jitesh Sharma hit four sixes in his 25 off just seven balls.
