Faf du Plessis explained how he suffered the injury against CSK in the IPL 2023. He said, “I was diving around and I thought I went at it with my rib”.
On Monday, April 17 at the Chinnaswamy Stadium, Faf du Plessis, the captain of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) explained why the physios attended him while he was batting against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
The seasoned opener batted brilliantly for fifty to get RCB back in the game and win the Orange Cap in the process. But after he was dismissed, there was a shocking collapse and RCB went on to lose by eight runs.
The physiotherapists had to strap up du Plessis’ torso during his explosive 33-ball 62-run innings. The captain acknowledged that he was still experiencing pain in his ribs from an injury he sustained while fielding early in the game during the post-match presentation.
Faf du Plessis has been in good form in the IPL 2023
“Early on in the game, while diving, my rib just hurt. I was uncomfortable as the innings progressed, but hopefully, it is not too bad,” he said.
Du Plessis evaluated their bowling effort, where they were once again humiliated in the middle overs:
We took a few runs to the Dube short boundary. The last four were supposed to conclude, but we were unable to do so. It’s just one of those wickets where you can tell how good it is to bowl on after the first few balls.
RCB suffered their second loss in three games, moving them up to a seventh place with four points after five games.
Regarding RCB’s performance in the death overs, Faf du Plessis said, “I would have bet my house on DK to finish that game”.
Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell provided RCB with a comfortable foundation with their 126-run third-wicket partnership, putting them in control and poised to set a record chase.
However, after Dinesh Karthik’s cameo ended, the home team faltered in the dying seconds. The seasoned wicketkeeper-batter appeared to be in good form but was eventually out after making 28 runs off of 14 pitches.
Du Plessis acknowledged his confidence in Karthik’s ability to end the chase for RCB. DK winning that game is who I would have placed my entire house on.
However, we made a few mistakes and some good bowling. For the most part, we controlled the game, but in the final four overs, we allowed it to slip slightly.
