Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya gave an important update about his teammate Yash Dayal. The left-arm pacer gave away 31 runs in an over against KKR on April 9 and Gujarat eventually lost the game. Since then he is ill and will take some more time for him to recover from his illness and resume playing in the IPL 2023 as well.
Dayal has not participated in any game since conceding 31 runs in the final over of a thrilling game at the Narendra Modi Stadium. As Gujarat attempted to defend 29 runs in the final over of the KKR’s 205-run chase, Yash Dayal was handed over the responsibility. In the high-profile match, Rinku Singh garnered attention by hitting as many as five sixes in the final five deliveries and sealed the deal.
Since then, Yash has been unable to make the starting XI. Despite the support Gujarat Titans gave him right after the heartbreaking final over against Kolkata Knight Riders, he was not even selected for the substitute list, which raised questions about his position in the team. With his variety and accuracy, veteran pacer Mohit Sharma has succeeded Yash Dayal for the Gujarat Titans, making a name for himself.
Hardik Pandya responded that Yash Dayal lost weight after the KKR game due to illness.
When asked about the possibility of Yash Dayal playing again in the IPL in 2023 during his interview with Star Sports, Hardik Pandya responded, “I can’t confirm that.”.
“Following that game, he became ill and lost 7-8 kg. In addition to the pressure he had to endure, a viral infection spread during that time, and his current health is insufficient for him to play right now. In the end, one person’s loss is another person’s gain.” And, according to Hardik Pandya, it will be some time before we see him on the field.
In the inaugural season for Gujarat Titans during their victorious IPL 2022 campaign, Yash Dayal was in red-hot form picking up 11 wickets in 9 games. However, the left-arm pacer only competed in three games before being outclassed by the heroics of Rinku Singh this season.
Mohit Sharma, who previously played for Gujarat as a net bowler last season, has taken 6 wickets in 4 games while filling in for Yash, allowing only 6.15 runs per over. Gujarat defeated the five-time champion Mumbai Indians by 55 runs to climb up to the 2nd spot in the IPL 2023 standings.
