Royal Challengers Bangalore kicked off their 2023 Indian Premier League with a convincing win against the Mumbai Indians on Sunday, April 2 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. However, they suffered an injury scare as Reece Topley had to walk out of the field due to a shoulder injury.

The incident took place during the eighth over of the first innings. Tilak Varma played a delivery toward the fine leg. Reece Topley dived to stop the ball but landed awkwardly on his right shoulder. He looked in a lot of pain, as the physio rushed in to attend to the player. After some chat, Reece Topley walked out of the field.

Following Royal Challengers Bangalore’s win Dinesh Karthik gave an important update regarding the injury status of the pacer. He revealed that Reece’s shoulder had popped out, but then it went back in. The cricketer was taken for scans, and then the extent of the injury will be known.

“It (shoulder) did pop out, but it went back in. I think he went for a scan during the game itself. He’s not in as much pain as we thought he’d be in. We’ll have to wait and see,” said Dinesh Karthik.

Virat Kohli-Faf du Plessis’ partnership takes Royal Challengers Bangalore home

Royal Challengers Bangalore openers, Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli’s 148 runs stand powered the team to an eight-wicket win. Kohli stayed unbeaten on 82 runs off 49 deliveries with six boundaries and five sixes. Earlier, Karn Sharma took two wickets, as Mumbai Indians scored 171 runs. Tilak Varma was the leading run-scorer for the Mumbai Indians with 84 runs off 46 deliveries. Faf du Plessis won the Player of the Match award for his 43-ball 73-run knock.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore will take on the Kolkata Knight Riders on Thursday, April 6 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. They will be keen to continue the winning momentum in the 2023 Indian Premier League.
