Indian commentator Harsha Bhogle expressed that the 2023 Indian Premier League Qualifier 1 match between the Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans will be a clash between the master and the apprentice. The match will take place on Tuesday, May 22 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chepauk.
The Gujarat Titans topped the league stages with eighteen points from fourteen matches. They will be heading into Qualifier 1 on the back of a win against the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the last league game. Meanwhile, Chennai Super Kings too finished the league stages with a win against the Delhi Capitals. They were second on the table with seventeen points. The two teams will battle in Qualifier 1 to secure a direct spot in the final of the tournament.
“It will be the master versus the apprentice. I was a little worried by the Hardik Pandya situation as he didn’t bat or bowl against RCB. But he needs to bowl because when he is bowling with the new ball alongside Mohammed Shami, he is very good when he gets the ball moving. So, I would like to see that,” said Harsha Bhogle in a conversation on Cricbuzz.
This will be a track that favours Chennai: Harsha Bhogle
Harsha Bhogle further pointed out that Qualifier 1 will take place at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Cheapauk. He expressed that as it is a home ground for the Chennai Super Kings, the track will favour them. However, he added that Gujarat Titans too are a strong side, and spinner Jayant Yadav could be used as an impact player in Chepauk. He said,
“This will be a track that favours Chennai. It depends on how Gujarat Titans can use that situation. But remember that GT is not bad at playing a 150-160 game. GT can also use Jayant Yadav as an Impact Player. If Hardik could bowl, they can get in Jayant Yadav instead of Yash Dayal if it is that kind of track because they will have that extra pacer. I just hope his back is fine.”
