IPL 2023: Jofra Archer Set To Play Entire Season

Jofra Archer to play IPL 2023

Mumbai Indians have been given the good news that the speedster Jofra Archer will play the entire 2023 IPL starting on 31 March. It will be a big boost as Jasprit Bumrah would miss this year’s edition due to a back injury.

Jofra Archer missed the 2022 IPL due to an injury. Mumbai Indians missed his service as they finished last in the points table. He was bought for Rs 8 Crore last year but due to injury, Archer could not feature.

Archer played for Rajasthan Royals from 2018 to 2020. During that time, he took a total of 46 wickets from 35 matches at an economy rate of 7..13 runs per over. His best season while bowling was during the 2020 edition picking up 20 wickets from 14 matches at an economy rate of 6.55 runs per over.

Archer is expected to be available and lead the bowling attack in the first game against Royal Challengers Bangalore on 5 April at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Officials of the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) and the IPL confirmed this to Cricbuzz on Wednesday (March 1). “He should be able to play a full part in the IPL and as always his franchisee and the ECB will manage his workload,” an ECB source said while an IPL counterpart added saying, “Jofra is very much available, have you not seen him in action in the Dhaka ODI.”

Jofra Archer looked impressive in the first One-day international against Bangladesh at Mirpur, Dhaka on 1 March 2023. He picked 2 wickets for 37 runs in his 10 overs.

The speedster missed 18 months of cricket due to injury including 2nd half of the IPL in 2021 and the full year of 2022. He played his first competitive game for Cape Town Mumbai Indians during the SA T20 tournament in South Africa.

Jasprit Bumrah is likely to miss this year’s IPL due to an injury. Bumrah and Archer could have been a deadly combination that would have troubled the opponent batters.

Performance of Jofra Archer in international cricket:

Archer made his international return during the 3-match ODI series against South Africa in South Africa. He was taken to the cleaners in the opening encounter giving away 81 runs from his 10 overs and grabbing only 1 wicket.

Archer was rested for the 2nd One-day international before making a strong return in the 3rd match of the series. The speedster picked his maiden five-wicket haul picking up 6 for 40 in 9.1 overs to give England a consolation win in the series.
