Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has lashed out at Rohit Sharma’s dismissal against the Chennai Super Kings on Saturday, May 5 at the Chepauk Stadium. The Mumbai Indians skipper has been going through a dismal run so far in the 2023 Indian Premier League season. They suffered a six wickets loss against the Chennai Super Kings.

Batting first, the Mumbai Indians initiated a change in their batting order. Cameron Green came out to open the innings along with Ishan Kishan. However, the plan did not work out well, as Green was dismissed early. Rohit Sharma walked out at number three for the Mumbai Indians but failed to score a run.

In the third over, MS Dhoni came up to the stumps, to prevent Rohit Sharma from coming down the track. On the penultimate delivery of the over, the Mumbai Indians batter attempted a lap shot of Deepak Chahar. However, he was early with the shot and mistimed it. The ball took the shoulder of the bat and lobbed towards the gully. Ravindra Jadeja completed a fine catch to send Rohit Sharma back for a duck.

Speaking to Star Sports about Rohit Sharma’s dismissal, Sunil Gavaskar said,

“It just doesn’t seem as if he is in the game. I may be completely wrong, but the shot he played wasn’t a captain’s shot. A captain repairs the innings knowing that the team is in trouble, plays a decent knock, and gets the team to a good total. Two wickets went for not too many in the power-play and you are not in form.”

Maybe a little break would do Rohit Sharma good: Sunil Gavaskar

Rohit Sharma has managed 184 runs in 10 matches, at an average of 18.40. He has bagged two ducks this season, and sixteen overall in the Indian Premier League. Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels Rohit Sharma needs a little break from the tournament, to make a comeback to form. He said,

“If you are in form, I still understand the scoop shot, but it’s a huge shot when you have got two ducks in the previous game. So, you want to play and get yourself off the mark, get some circulation in the legs, running quick ones and twos, and then go for the big ones. Maybe, he is preoccupied and maybe a little break would do him good. But it’s for him and the MI team management to take a call,”
