Images on TV appeared to show Kohli and Afghanistan player Naveen-ul-Haq having a verbal exchange as the players lined up to shake hands after RCB had just defeated LSG by 18 runs in Lucknow to avenge their home loss.

The drama from Monday night’s game between RCB and LSG in Bengaluru appeared to be a continuation of what happened. When Gambhir was seen calming the crowd at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Glenn Maxwell of the RCB intervened during the Kohli-Naveen-ul-Haq altercation after the game to stop the LSG bowler. The LSG opener Kyle Mayers and Kohli then had a brief conversation before Gambhir arrived to remove the Caribbean batter.

Following his apparent request for the Lucknow crowd to keep quiet as their team lost. Kohli and Gambhir got into a heated exchange. Many athletes intervened to keep the two apart, including injured LSG captain KL Rahul.

The explosive Gambhir-Kohli relationship is not new. In 2013, Gambhir, who helped KKR win two IPL championships, and RCB’s Kohli got into a heated argument.

The two charged at each other in that particular game as Kohli was returning to the dugout following his dismissal. Their teammates intervened to defuse the situation. Later, Gambhir claimed that there was no personal rivalry between the two.

“The two best cricketers in India were having an ego conflict. There was nothing significant that happened. Really, it was just a spur-of-the-moment choice”. An LSG official who wished to remain anonymous said, “It happens in such a high-tension game”.

After the presentation, the official stated that there was no animosity. After the game, the LSG executives did convene a meeting with the players and officials at the stadium.
