Lucknow Super Giants produced dominating performance with the bat as they posted the 2nd highest total in IPL history. They achieved this milestone against Punjab Kings in match number 38 of IPL 2023 played at PCA Stadium, Mohali on 28 April.

Punjab Kings captain Shikhar Dhawan won the toss and decided to field first. Kagiso Rabada making a comeback into the playing XI dismissed LSG captain KL Rahul with a beauty. KL Rahul and Mayers put on 41 runs in just 3.2 overs. Kyle Mayers showed intent right from word go and put pressure on PBKS bowlers reaching fifty off just 20 deliveries.

Rabada struck again to dismiss well-set Mayers. At the end of the first six overs, LSG raced away to 74 for 2. Ayush Badoni joined in with Marcus Stoinis and made the batting look easy on a brilliant batting pitch. Both batters kept the momentum going for Lucknow Super Giants with fours and sixes at regular intervals. Badoni was eventually dismissed making 43 runs in quick time.

Badoni and Stoinis added 89 runs for the 3rd wicket. Nicolas Pooran joined the party with some brilliant shots to put enough pressure on PBKS bowlers. Stoinis reached a half-century off 31 deliveries and maintained an aggressive style of batting. Pooran played a blinder of innings hitting boundaries at will. Sam Curran dismissed Stoinis for 72 with a simple catch to Jitesh Sharma. Stoinis and Pooran added 76 runs for the 4th wicket.

Pooran was eventually dismissed for quickfire 45 off 19 deliveries. It was a brilliant effort by LSG batters to post 257 for 5 in 20 overs. For PBKS, Rabada was the pick of bowlers with 2 for 52 in 4 overs. Lucknow Super Giants posted the 2nd highest total in IPL history since its inception in 2008. Royal Challengers Bangalore has the top score of 263 for 5 against Pune Warriors India.

LSG bowlers did a superb job

It was impressive bowling by Lucknow Super Giants. Marcus Stoinis got rid of PBKS captain Dhawan caught by Krunal Pandya. Naveen UL Haq dismissed impact player Prabhsimran Singh straight into the hands of substitute Daniel Sams.

Atharva Taide looked impressive with his shots putting some pressure on LSG bowlers. Raza and Taide made the batting look easy but it was a little too far. Taide completed his maiden IPL fifty off 26 deliveries. Lucknow Super Giants kept picking wickets at regular intervals and bowled out PBKS for 201.

Yash Thakur grabbed 4 for 37, Naveen UL Haq 3 for 30 and Ravi Bishnoi 2 for 41. Marcus Stoinis went off the field due to an injury. For his 72 off 40 and 1 for 21, Marcus Stoinis was named the Player of the Match award. With this win, LSG moves to second in the points table.
