Mark Wood picks 5 wicket haul against DC in IPL 2023

Mark Wood could miss the backend of the IPL 2023 as he may leave for England in the coming weeks for the birth of his second child. He is currently playing for Lucknow Super Giants and created a major impact so far in the tournament.

According to reports, Mark Wood and his wife Sarah would be expecting a baby in late May and he would flying home to England to stay with the family. Wood missed the last two games of Lucknow Super Giants due to illness; his ability to bowl pace could be a major blow for the KL Rahul-led side.

Mark Wood has been brilliant so far for Lucknow Super Giants with 11 wickets from 4 matches. He picked up his maiden five-wicket haul against Delhi Capitals in their opening encounter. His bowling created a major impact with accuracy and speed that troubles the opponent batters.

Lucknow Super Giants lost their previous match against Gujarat Titans from a winning position. Needing 17 from 2 overs, KL Rahul could not hit boundaries against Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma and eventually lost the match by 7 runs.

Naveen UL Haq looked impressive so far in the matches he played for Lucknow Super Giants but Mark Wood’s pace and ability to bounce out batters will be missed if he goes to England.

Other England players to feature in IPL

With the Ashes series against Australia to be played from 16th June, the England and Wales Cricket Board ensured that the England players will not be called back before the IPL tournament ends.

As per reports, the ECB assured BCCI that their players would stay till the end of the tournament. Mark Wood and Ben Stokes could come back from the IPL.

Mark Wood has done decently for Lucknow Super Giants so far and would be looking to showcase his bowling skills whenever he returns to the playing XI in the next match. LSG would now play against Punjab Kings on 28 April. Jofra Archer playing for Mumbai Indians would be monitored as he is likely not to feature in the first Test match against Australia.
