IPL 2023: Mumbai Indians, Yashasvi Jaiswal Break Several Records During 1000th IPL Game

The Mumbai Indians registered an emphatic win against the Rajasthan Royals in Match 42 of the 2023 Indian Premier League on Sunday, April 30 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The match witnessed several stunning performances from players of both sides, to make the 1000th Indian Premier League game memorable.

Batting first, Rajasthan Royals put on 212 runs on the back of Yashasvi Jaiswal’s maiden IPL century. The opener smashed sixteen boundaries and eight sixes to score 124 runs at a strike rate of 200. However, his effort went in vain, as Mumbai Indians secured a six-wicket win. Suryakumar Yadav slammed a fifty, while Tim David’s three consecutive sixes in the final over, powering the hosts to their fourth win of the season.

Several records were broken during the match, as Mumbai Indians chased down a record total. This was the first time in the history of the tournament, a 200-plus score was successfully chased at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The previous best was also by MI against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in 2019. Meanwhile, Super Sunday (April 30) witnessed four 200-plus scores in a day. The Punjab Kings also chased down 201 runs against the Chennai Super Kings earlier in the day.

Yashasvi Jaiswal’s record-breaking century

Rajasthan Royals opener Yashasvi Jaiswal broke several records with his stunning century against the Mumbai Indians in Wankhede Stadium. His 124 runs knock is now the highest individual score by an Indian for the Rajasthan Royals. He broke Samson’s record of 119 against Punjab Kings in 2021.

The opener also became the fourth-youngest batter to score a century in the Indian Premier League. He is only behind Manish Pandey (19y, 253 days), Rishabh Pant (20y, 218 days), and Devdutt Padikkal (20y, 289 days) in the special list. Jaiswal also holds the record for smashing the highest individual score in the IPL as an uncapped player. He is currently the leading run-scorer in the 2023 Indian Premier League, with 428 runs at an average of 47.56.
