Marcus Stoinis was credited by wicketkeeper-batsman Nicholas Pooran of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) for making the 213-run chase against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) appear very simple in the IPL 2023.

The left-handed batter thought it was a great pitch to bat on, and the smaller boundaries also to maintain the required rate, Pooran had to start hitting big shots right away. The RCB bowlers were helpless against his onslaught.

The West Indian batsman hit seven sixes before falling for a 19-ball 62, giving him the IPL 2023 record for the fastest fifty at 15 balls. The southpaw added 84 off 35 pitches working with Ayush Badoni.

He believed one set batter should end the game for the Super Giants when asked about his plans by Marcus Stoinis. He struck 65 out of 29 pitches.

“It was straightforward. Without a doubt, we spoke during the break. There, you were making it appear to be very simple. I thought we would succeed once we had a reliable batsman. We discussed how to put ourselves in a good position. Why should I hold myself back when you did it? I made an effort to act similarly there. The pitch was excellent, and the boundaries were modest”

Given the keeper-batter’s inconsistent performances over the previous two seasons, LSG received some criticism for spending a whopping INR 16 crore on him. The 27-year-old’s terrible 7.73 average in the 2021 season was significantly better the season after when he played for SunRisers Hyderabad.

The Australian all-rounder responded that his plans were clear when Pooran questioned him about Stoinis’ strategy with the Super Giants trailing by three runs.

“I have the same thoughts as you. Be straightforward. Hit hard cricket shots and just decide beforehand how I like to behave when I’m at my best. As much as I can, I try to incorporate that into my game. Tonight, I spoke very clearly. Have a strong base, hit hard cricket shots, and that’s it.”
