IPL 2023: ‘Our Father Would Have Been Proud,’ – Hardik Pandya On Pandya Brothers Donning Captain’s Hat

When asked about playing against the Krunal-led Lucknow Super Giants, Gujarat Titans captain Hardik Pandya said that their father would have been extremely proud.

Hardik said, “It was a very emotional day and their father would have been very proud to see them manage various IPL teams.” The GT captain added that only one Pandya would win, saying “That the family would not be able to support one brother over another.”

“We’d have taken the batting opener. I revealed the toss’s secret to him and then let it go. Undoubtedly, it was a very emotional day, and our father would be pleased with us. He imagined it. The family is upset, and we are at a loss for words. At the coin toss, Hardik Pandya said, “Yes, I would like the boys to win here, own this place, and express themselves.”

“I fully accepted responsibility for it. It can happen occasionally in the DC game. I want the team to play freely and with expression. One forced change was made today. Alzarri Joseph has replaced Josh, who had to return to his country for duty, Hardik said.”

As for the defending champions, older brother Krunal won the toss and chose to bowl

At the coin toss, Krunal remarked, “It’s a dream come true for us, leading our respective sides.”

Hardik stated, “It is a significant day for the family and that their father would have been pleased to see the two brothers serve as captains in the IPL.”

“Our father would have been proud of this emotional day. Our family is happy about this because it is a first-time occurrence. Today’s winner is going to be a Pandya.”

Before the highly anticipated match, the two brothers hugged and briefly spoke. Quinton de Kock replaced Naveen-Ul-Haq in the playing XI for the LSG, and Alzarri Joseph took Joshua Little’s place in the line-up for the GT as the two teams made significant changes to their lineups in preparation for the match.

The Indian Premier League juggernaut of Gujarat Titans continued on Sunday when the defending champions defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 56 runs to maintain their lead in the standings.

With eight victories in their previous 11 games, they have now amassed 16 points, putting them in the playoff position.

Gujarat Titans, who reached their highest-ever total of 227 for two thanks to a franchise record 142-run partnership between Shubman Gill (94 not out) and Wriddhiman Saha (81), came back strongly in the second half of LSG’s chase to win decisively.

Gujarat Titans’ dominance in the Indian Premier League persisted as the defending champions defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 56 runs on Sunday in Ahmedabad to maintain their lead in the standings. With their eighth victory in their previous 11 games, they now have 16 points, putting them closer to the playoffs.

Gujarat Titans, who reached their highest-ever total of 227 for two thanks to a 142-run partnership between Shubman Gill (94 not out) and Wriddhiman Saha (81), a franchise record, came back strongly in LSG’s chase to win handily.

In pursuit of 228 runs, LSG batted their way to a solid 102 for one at the halfway point, but eventually, the wheels came off as GT tied down their batters with tight overs.

Despite Quinton de Kock’s outstanding 70 in his first game of the year and Kyle Mayers’ quick 48 at the top, LSG’s middle order crumbled under the weight of a difficult chase, losing the match after scoring 171 for 7 in 20 overs.

With momentum from Mayers and de Kock, Lucknow Super Giants was able to knock off 50 runs from the target in just four overs.

While Mayers started off the game by hitting three straight fours off Hardik Pandya in the second over, Mohammad Shami’s third over resulted in 19 runs with de Kock hitting a few fours and Mayers collecting a six and a four.

In the fifth, Mayers was particularly harsh on Rashid Khan, hitting him for a six and a four to score 14 runs as LSG advanced to 72 for no loss following the powerplay.

However, Rashid’s brilliant catch in the ninth over ended LSG’s opening stand at 88.

The Afghan player removed Mayers for 48 off 32 balls (7x4s, 2×6) from Mohit Sharma after travelling 26 meters from deep square leg and holding on to the ball while diving to his right.

To get LSG to 102 for one halfway through, de Kock continued to excel by powerfully flicking Hardik over midwicket for a six.

Meanwhile, Deepak Hooda (11) continued his terrible IPL run. He reached double digits for just the third time in 10 innings, but he hit a full toss off of Shami straight to deep midwicket.

In overs 11 through 14, as Gujarat took charge, LSG was unable to hit even a single four. Mohit caught Marcus Stoinis (4) at short third man in the 15th over, ending his innings.

Rashid dismissed de Kock for a fine 70, coming off 41 balls with three sixes and seven fours, and Nicholas Pooran (3) was bowled out by Noor Ahmad, which caused LSG to fall further.
