Gujarat Titans assistant coach Aashish Kapoor has heaped praise on Rashid Khan’s all-round performance against the Mumbai Indians on Friday, May 12 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai in the 2023 Indian Premier League. He expressed that the Afghanistan cricketer has proved himself to be a top all-rounder, at least in the T20 format.

Rashid Khan pulled off a spectacular batting show with a 32-ball 79 runs knock at a strike rate of 246.88. He slammed three boundaries and ten sixes during the knock. Unfortunately, his effort wasn’t enough for the Gujarat Titans to secure a win. They fell short of the target by 27 runs.

Hailing Rashid Khan’s performance, Gujarat Titans assistant coach Aashish Kapoor said,

“We all know that Rashid is a top-class player. There is no doubt about it and people look at him as a spinner but he has proven that he is a top all-rounder at least in this format.”

Rashid Khan almost pulled it off: Aashish Kapoor

Gujarat Titans assistant coach Aashish Kapoor further expressed that Rashid Khan did not get a lot of opportunities to bat so far in the 2023 Indian Premier League season. However with his brilliant performance he almost pulled off a win against the Mumbai Indians, he added. Aashish Kapoor said’

“Till right now, he didn’t have to bat. I think he has batted just one ball before this game. Last year he got a lot of batting, and he won a lot of matches for us. This year this is the first time where he got a decent inning, where he got some balls to bat and he almost pulled it off.”

Despite the loss, the Gujarat Titans have retained their top spot with sixteen points from twelve games. They have a Net Run Rate of 0.761, after the loss against Mumbai Indians. The Hardik Pandya-led team will take on Sunrisers Hyderabad next on Monday, May 15 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
