Former India head coach Ravi Shastri showered praise on Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill after his brilliant knock against the Lucknow Super Giants at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the 2023 Indian Premier League season. The right-handed batter slammed his fourth half-century in the season and is the leading run-scorer for the Gujarat Titans in the tournament so far.

Shubman Gill slammed 94 runs off just 51 deliveries at a strike rate of 184.31. His knock included two boundaries and seven sixes. His opening stand of 142 runs with Wriddhiman Saha set the stage for Gujarat Titans’ eighth win of the season. They defended 227 runs, winning the match by 56 runs. Talking about Shubman Gill to Star Sports, Ravi Shastri said,

“He makes batting look so easy. I liked his maturity early on when Saha was going hammer and tongs, he took his time and once he got into the groove, initially he was just dealing in sixes. I think he hit six sixes and only after that did he hit his first boundary.”

Shubman Gill has got that quiet self-confidence about him: Ravi Shastri

Shubman Gill has now scored 469 runs in 11 matches this season, at an average of 46.90 and a strike rate of 143.43. Further lavishing praise on the opener, Ravi Shastri expressed that he uses his height well. He added that the Gujarat Titans batter has all the shots in his armour, and is confident about his batting performance. Ravi Shastri said,

“Again, so pleasing to the eye. He makes batting look so easy. He’s a tall man, uses his reach to good advantage, and played some terrific shots. His strength is down the ground, that’s where he plays some of his best shots, in the V in front of the wicket. He has got all the shots, the cut, the pull, very elegant on the cover drive.”

“Then he comes out after the innings and says that he has got five matches to score his hundred. That’s the spirit. And he has got that quiet self-confidence about him,” he added.
