IPL 2023: Stephen Flaming Makes an Exclusive Statement on MS Dhoni's Fitness

MS Dhoni is still a vital part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) side, as per head coach Stephen Fleming. Stephen Fleming, head coach of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), asserted that it would be unfair to expect MS Dhoni to be as quick as he was at the height of his career.

Dhoni had a knee problem before CSK’s game against Gujarat Titans (GT) on March 31, and rumours that he would miss the opening game of the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL) circulated.

But the 41-year-old took the field in the game, which CSK ultimately lost by five wickets, at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium. Dhoni, according to Fleming, is still an important player for the team and has a lot to offer, even as a batter.

“He never stopped playing. I’m not sure of the source of that news. During the month-long training, he suffered knee pain, but today it was just cramping and not knee pain. Even though he won’t be as quick and nimble as he was 15 years ago, he will still contribute even with the bat because he is a fantastic team leader.”

MS Dhoni is a valuable player for CSK to have on the field because he is aware of his limitations.

In the press conference following the game, Fleming remarked, “He is a legend, isn’t he? Fleming appreciated the remarkable performance by Rajvardhan Hangargekar, a pace bowler who debuted in the IPL against Gujarat Titans on Friday.”

The 20-year-old, who finished with a record of 4-0-36-2, became CSK’s fourth-youngest debutant. Vijay Shankar, Sai Sudharsan, and Wriddhiman Saha were all crucial wickets that he secured.

“Some significant progress has been made. He has produced much more consistently excellent work. He still needs to work on some things before you feel comfortable.

It’s a lot to ask when making your debut to perform in front of 100,000 people. He performed admirably, but there were a few slip-ups, which is to be expected from a young player. He further lauds the debutant and says, it’s tough to get a game and execute at the right time.”
