Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar feels Suryakumar Yadav is going to be crucial for the Mumbai Indians in the playoffs of the 2023 Indian Premier League. The five-time Indian Premier League champions will be taking on the Lucknow Super Giants in the Eliminator on Wednesday, May 24 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Suryakumar Yadav has been in terrific form for the Mumbai Indians in the ongoing tournament. He is their leading run-scorer so far, with 511 runs at an average of 42.58 and a strike rate of 185.14. The right-handed batter has four fifties and a century to his name. He has played a vital role for the franchise in the league stages. Former cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has expressed that Suryakumar Yadav needs to continue his outstanding run in the playoffs.

“SKY is outstanding. Look at the big stride he takes when it comes to playing such agricultural shots. However, he needs to plan his game better on slow and turning pitches. He’s going to be crucial for MI in the playoff games. Remember, the first couple of playoff games are going to be played on a slow Chennai track,” Sunil Gavaskar said on Star Sports.

Piyush Chawla is a champion bowler: Mohammad Kaif

Former cricketer Mohammad Kaif heaped praise on Mumbai Indians spinner Piyush Chawla. In a season where the Mumbai Indians’ bowlers have performed below par, Piyush Chawla has been the only shining star. He has taken 20 wickets in fourteen matches, at an economy rate of 7.81.

“Chawla has taken half of the wickets that Mumbai has taken so far. This is a champion bowler. As if taking wickets on the very first ball in every match has become his habit,” said Mohammad Kaif.

“Chawla has proved that there is no substitute for experience. He has stability in his deliveries and has been impressive on all types of wickets. His impact this season has been solid,” he added.
