Former Australian all-rounder Tom Moody thinks Shimron Hetmyer of the Rajasthan Royals (RR) is not only a power hitter but also qualified to bat in the top order in the current Indian Premier League 2023 (IPL 2023).

He emphasized how, while batting at No. 1, Hetmyer has experienced great success. Despite being primarily used as a finisher by Rajasthan, the seasoned coach believed that the southpaw was a complete batter who could succeed in any position.

After Hetmyer led RR to a three-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans (GT) on April 16 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Moody praised him. As Rajasthan successfully surpassed the 178-run goal with four balls remaining, the left-handed batter was named Player of the Match for his unbeaten 56-run performance.

Moody said in an interview with ESPNcricinfo: “I detest the term “finisher,” as Shimron Hetmyer is more than that. Hetmyer is a top order batter, but that doesn’t mean I’m saying that people who are known as finishers aren’t proper batsmen. In other variations of the game, he is not a middle order batter. He gained experience at No. 3. For the West Indies. He is classified as a finisher because his role in this team is to bat more in the final stages of innings. But as we have seen tonight and on other occasions. He is more than just a player with a good ground game.”

In the IPL this year, Hetmyer has a noteworthy strike rate of 184.84. The daring hitter has five innings under his belt and has scored 183 runs while striking out just once.

Shimron Hetmyer’s IPL 2023 batting performances were praised by Amol Muzumdar as “playing his role to perfection.”

Shimron Hetmyer received high praise from former RR batting coach Amol Muzumdar for winning the game for his team against GT despite tremendous pressure.

The 48-year-old stressed how successful Hetmyer was in the finisher position the season before. He clarified:

“Shimron Hetmyer has both the power and the game. He has a wonderful disposition. I really admire Shimron Hetmyer for wanting to take the game into his own hands. Despite losing Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson, he still had the guts to go there and defeat the opposition. He truly is brilliant. He performs his part to absolute perfection at that particular number. He did that last year, and it’s clear that he’s doing it again this year.”
