Gujarat Titans wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha took a blinder against Delhi Capitals on Tuesday, May 2 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad in the 2023 Indian Premier League. He sent Manish Pandey back to the pavilion cheaply as Delhi Capitals managed 130 runs in the innings.

The incident took place in the fifth over of the first innings. Mohammed Shami bowled a length delivery, with an upright seam. The ball curved and wobbled in, and took the bottom edge of the bat, as Manish Pandey tried to push it. It went to the right of the wicket-keeper Wriddhiman Saha, who dived to perfection to pull off a spectacular catch.

Manish Pandey was dismissed for just one run off four deliveries. His dismissal put the defending champions Gujarat Titans in the driving seat. Delhi Capitals were reeling at 22/4 after 4.1 overs. They managed to put on 130 runs on the board, at the end of the first innings. Aman Khan was the leading run-scorer with 51 runs off 44 deliveries, including three boundaries and as many sixes.

My job is to attack and take wickets: Mohammed Shami

Gujarat Titans pacer Mohammed Shami finished the innings with four wickets for eleven runs, at an economy rate of 2.80. He is the leading wicket-taker in the Indian Premier League 2023 season so far, with 17 wickets in nine matches, at an average of 14.53. This is his first four-wicket haul of the season. Speaking about his performance, he said during the mid-innings break,

“We practice a lot before the season and understand how the pitches behave and which lengths to bowl. I’m just following the plans. My job is to attack and take wickets and if we can take those early wickets it will always be such a huge plus for the team. Don’t think there is too much swing or seam. I have given it my all and bowled four on the trot.”
