IPL 2023: What LSG, MI, RCB And CSK Should Do To Reach The Playoffs

Gujarat Titans defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by 34 runs in Match 62 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. And become the first team to advance to the IPL 2023 playoffs.

Heinrich Klaasen scored 50 while SRH was restricted to 154/9 in 20 overs while chasing a target of 189 runs. Mohammed Shami and Mohit Sharma both took four wickets for GT’s bowling unit and were in outstanding form.

Thanks to Shubman Gill’s first IPL century, GT initially posted 188/9 in 20 overs. 13 fours and a six were part of the opener’s 101 runs off 58 balls. In the meantime, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took five wickets for SRH.

CSK need one more victory to guarantee their place in the playoffs

The scenarios for the other franchises are listed below since GT has already qualified.

Chennai Super Kings: With 15 points in 13 games and a second-place standing. CSK must defeat Delhi Capitals in their final game. Depending on other outcomes, CSK may still be eligible even if they lose.

In Match 63, the Lucknow Super Giants take on the Mumbai Indians. If either team wins, they will pass CSK and move up to second place. Chennai will then need RCB and PBKS to lose both of their remaining games.

Mumbai Indians: MI have 14 points after 12 games, which puts them third in the standings. In their remaining league phase games, they take on LSG and SRH. In the event that MI wins both contests, they will advance. Even if they only win one of the remaining two games. They still need other outcomes to go their way in order to qualify.

Lucknow Super Giants: LSG is fourth in the standings with 13 points after 12 games. In their final two league games, they play MI and Kolkata Knight Riders. And they must win both to advance to the playoffs. However, it will also depend on other outcomes if they only succeed in one of the two contests.

Royal Challengers Bangalore: With 12 points from 12 games, RCB is ranked fifth overall. In their final two league contests, they play SRH and GT. A significant factor might be the net run rate. If LSG defeat MI and Rohit’s team loses to SRH. They could theoretically still make the playoffs even if they only win one of the two games.

Rajasthan Royals: With 12 points after 13 games, Sanju Samon’s RR are sixth in the standings. In their final game against Punjab Kings, they must prevail. Even if they win, they might not qualify because other outcomes and other teams’ net run rates will also be taken into consideration.

If RR loses, they are eliminated and if they win, they will also need MI, LSG and RCB to lose both of their remaining games. At that point, The deciding factor will be the net run rate.

Punjab Kings: With 12 points from 12 games, PBKS is currently ranked eighth overall. They still have to play DC and RR and they need to win both games in addition to other things going their way. And They have a dismal net run rate, the worst of all the teams still in the running for the playoffs. Making it almost impossible for them to advance.
