3 Reasons Why Sanju Samson Can Be The Orange Cap Winner

Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson began the Indian Premier League 2024 with a match-winning knock of an unbeaten 82 against Lucknow Super Giants played at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on 24th March 2024.

Samson’s knock helped Rajasthan Royals post 193 for 4. Despite KL Rahul and Pooran’s efforts, RR won the match by 20 runs. For his captain knock, Samson won the player of the match award.

He has all the shots in the books and will play a key role for Rajasthan Royals in helping them to qualify for the playoff stage.

After 5 matches in this edition, Sanju Samson is now the leading Orange Cap holder.

Here we look at the 3 reasons why Sanju Samson can win the Orange Cap award in IPL 2024:

  1. The knack of playing big knocks

Sanju Samson played a captain knock against Lucknow Super Giants at Jaipur that helped RR post 193 for 4. He showed his class by putting enough pressure on the bowlers with an aggressive style of play.

During the innings against Lucknow Super Giants, he came to the crease after the fall of Buttler’s wicket. Samson took singles and kept the strike rotating. After being set, he smashed the bowlers all over the park.

He could win the Orange Cap award if he continues his brilliant form and helps Rajasthan Royals win matches on his own.

  1. Lots of Experience

Sanju Samson has a lot of experience playing for Rajasthan Royals in the IPL. He captained RR last year and looked impressive with the bat. Samson has been a part of IPL since 2013.

He can hit big shots with ease which makes him a difficult bowler to bowl at.  Samson has an array of strokes that allow him to accelerate and help their side post targets or chase down them easily.

The Kerala batter played for Delhi Capitals known as Delhi Daredevils for a few seasons and knows how to score runs at this level.

  1. Batting Situation Well Suited

Sanju Samson comes at number 3 which allows him to take time and then show his class with big shots. He showed his skills against Lucknow Super Giants with a brilliant unbeaten 82 that helped RR post 193 for 4 in 20 overs.

The number 3 batting position gives him a chance to use the first six overs’ restrictions and put enough pressure on the bowlers.

Sanju Samson will look to continue batting at number 3 for RR this season and allow him to play more deliveries which would be useful for the inaugural IPL champion.
