IPL 2024: 5 Best Bowling Spells Between GT And RR

Rajasthan Royals will face Gujarat Titans in match number 24 of IPL 2024 to be played at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on 10th April. Under the captaincy of Sanju Samson, RR is the only team to remain unbeaten with 4 out of 4 wins.

On the other hand, Gujarat Titans are currently at the number 7th spot and would be looking to make a strong comeback. GT and RR played a total of 5 matches in IPL history including the finals played in the 2022 edition of IPL. Gujarat Titans won a total of 4 matches while RR won once.

It promises to be another good contest between Gujarat Titans and Rajasthan Royals at RR Fortress.

Here we look at the 5 best bowling spells between GT and RR in IPL history:

  1. Hardik Pandya (IPL 2022 Finals)

Hardik Pandya led from the front with the ball with the match-winning spell in the finals of the 2022 edition at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 29th May.

Hardik dismissed Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson. He then dismissed Jos Buttler and Shimron Hetymer to leave RR in trouble. The GT captain never allowed RR batters to score runs easily. It was a brilliant bowling spell by Hardik ending with figures of 3 for 17 in 4 overs.

His bowling spell led GT to restrict Rajasthan Royals to a modest total of 130 for 9. Hardik Pandya also proved with an unbeaten 40 that helped GT win the match easily.  For his all-round efforts, Pandya was named the player of the match award.

  1. Rashid 3 for 14 (IPL 2023)

Rashid Khan showed his class with a match-winning spell at Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on 5th May 2023. RR captain Sanju Samson won the toss and decided to bat first.

Rashid was lethal with his bowling, not allowing RR batters to score runs easily. He then took the wickets of Ravichandran Ashwin, and impact player Riyan Parag in quick succession to leave RR in trouble. He then got the wicket of Shimron Hetymer to finish with figures of 3 for 14 in 4 overs. His bowling efforts helped GT bowl out RR for 118. Gujarat Titans chased down the target easily with 9 wickets remaining.

For his match-winning spell of 3 for 14 in 4 overs, Rashid Khan was named the player of the match award.

  1. Lockie Ferguson 3 for 23 (IPL 2022)

Playing for Gujarat Titans, New Zealand pace bowler Lockie Ferguson had a great outing during the IPL 2022 edition played at DY Patil Stadium, Navi Mumbai on 14th April.

Gujarat Titans posted 192 for 4 in 20 overs. Lockie Ferguson dismissed R Ashwin to put brakes on RR scoring. He then bowled a beauty to dismiss half-centurion Jos Buttler.

With things looking tight, Ferguson struck again to dismiss Riyan Parag. It was a lovely spell by Lockie ending with figures of 3 for 23 in 4 overs. Gujarat Titans won the match easily by 37 runs.

  1. Mohammed Shami 3 for 24 (IPL 2023)

Mohammed Shami produced a superb spell of bowling in match number 24 of IPL 2023 played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 16th April.

Gujarat Titans made 177 for 7 in 20 overs on a good batting paradise. Shami struck early with a peach of delivery to dismiss Buttler cheaply. The premier pace bowler was bought late by Hardik Pandya.

He gave some hope with the wickets of Ravichandran Ashwin and Dhruv Jurel. It was not enough as RR won the match by 3 wickets with 4 balls to spare. Shami ended with figures of 3 for 24 in 4 overs.

  1. Trent Boult 1 for 14 (IPL 2022 Finals)

Trent Boult delivered the goods for Rajasthan Royals in the finals of the 2022 edition played at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on 29th May.

Defending a modest total of 131 runs, Boult dismissed Matthew Wade. He never allowed the GT batters to score runs easily. It was a disciplined bowling effort by Boult ending with figures of 1 for 14 in 4 overs.

Despite his efforts, Rajasthan Royals could not defend the total and lost the finals by 7 wickets.
