IPL 2024: BCCI Imposes Hefty Fine On Hardik Pandya For His Action

Mumbai Indians (MI) captain Hardik Pandya was fined Rs. 30 lakh for his team’s slow over-rate during their IPL 2024 match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Wankhede Stadium on Friday night.

“As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pandya was fined Rs. 30 lakh and banned from playing the team’s next match,” the IPL statement read.

“The rest of the members of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined either Rs.12 lakh or 50 percent of their respective match fees, whichever is lesser.”

Nicholas Pooran’s sensational 75 off 28 balls propelled the Lucknow Super Giants to a formidable total. After a 45-minute rain delay, LSG overcame the Mumbai Indians by 18 runs, despite half-centuries from Rohit Sharma and Naman Dhir.

Pooran reached his fifty in just 19 balls, smashing eight sixes to become the highest six-hitter (36) in IPL 2024, lifting LSG from 69/3 in 10 overs to over 200.

Mumbai Indians concluded the season with eight points from 14 matches, finishing last in the standings for the second time in three years. LSG, ending with 14 points, will regret a few performances that could have secured them a playoff spot.

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya’s IPL season concludes with a defeat and a one-match suspension

Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya’s IPL 2024 campaign ended on a disappointing note with the team’s 10th defeat on Friday night.

Compounding the setback, Pandya has been banned from playing in the next match due to an over-rate violation in their final game against the Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium. Additionally, he has been fined Rs 30 lakh.

“As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Pandya was fined INR 30 lakh and banned from playing the team’s next match,” the IPL stated after LSG beat MI by 18 runs.

The remaining MI playing XI, including the Impact Player, faced fines of either Rs 12 lakh or 50 percent of their individual match fees, whichever was lower. Pandya becomes the second player in IPL 2024 to receive a one-match suspension for an overrate violation.

Earlier this week, Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant missed his team’s crucial match against Royal Challengers Bangalore due to a similar suspension. Despite appealing the ruling and citing various reasons for the delay, the decision was upheld.

Since the match against LSG marked MI’s final one of the season, Pandya is likely to miss the team’s opening match of the next season as part of his penalty.

It has been a dismal season for the five-time champions, winning only four of their 14 league matches and finishing at the bottom of the table. Their struggles reached a climax in their final match, failing to chase down LSG’s target, concluding their campaign on a disappointing note.
