Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad led from the front with an unbeaten 107 against Lucknow Super Giants in match number 39 of IPL 2024 played at M Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on 23rd April.

LSG captain KL Rahul won the toss and decided to field first. Ruturaj Gaikwad showed intent right from the word go putting enough pressure on LSG bowlers. He kept the scoreboard ticking by playing some lovely strokes. Despite two early wickets of Rahane and Mitchell, Gaikwad kept the scoreboard ticking, taking singles, and hitting boundaries with ease.

Gaikwad played the spinners well keeping the strike rotating. CSK captain Gaikwad completed fifty off 28 deliveries. Ravindra Jadeja’s poor innings ended dismissed by Mohsin Khan. Gaikwad made the batting look easy hitting shots against Yash Thakur and other LSG bowlers. It was a superb knock by Gaikwad reaching his century off 56 deliveries. Shivam Dube belted the LSG bowlers with fierce hitting, scoring 66 from 27 balls with 3 fours and 7 sixes.

Gaikwad kept the momentum going for CSK with an unbeaten 108 off 60 balls with 12 boundaries and 3 sixes. Gaikwad became the first CSK captain to score a century in IPL history.

Gaikwad was given a reprieve by Matt Henry. He made use of the chance as he made the batting look comfortable against LSG bowlers. His strike rate increased with some lusty blows which put enough pressure on the opponent. Gaikwad took a single as MS Dhoni hit a boundary off the final delivery to help CSK post 210 for 4. It was a special knock by Gaikwad who kept his cool and did not allow LSG bowlers to settle.

Gaikwad showed his array of strokes against Lucknow Super Giants bowlers keeping the momentum going for CSK. CSK captain ensured that they reach above par total keeping the dew effect in mind
