IPL 2024: Irfan Pathan Shares Insights On MS Dhoni’s Fitness

Former pace bowler Irfan Pathan recently recounted his encounter with MS Dhoni, marvelling at the Chennai Super Kings captain’s remarkable fitness despite being over 40 years old. Pathan expressed confidence in Dhoni’s ability to continue playing beyond IPL 2024, citing the veteran cricketer’s dedication to maintaining peak physical condition.

Dhoni’s vigorous training regimen in preparation for the upcoming IPL season has left Pathan impressed, emphasizing the 41-year-old’s commitment to his craft. Observing Dhoni’s training sessions in Ranchi, Pathan noted the iconic long hair sported by the legendary wicketkeeper, which may signify his final season in the IPL.

Despite speculations surrounding Dhoni’s retirement, he remains steadfast in his desire to represent CSK for at least another year, viewing it as a gesture of gratitude towards his loyal fanbase. Dhoni’s resilience was evident as he managed a knee injury during CSK’s triumphant campaign in 2023, undergoing surgery and subsequent rehabilitation to regain full fitness.

Addressing the significance of Dhoni’s presence in the IPL, Pathan emphasized the profound impact the former Indian captain has had on the league’s popularity. Reflecting on their shared success in the T20 World Cup under Dhoni’s leadership, Pathan predicted that Dhoni’s association with CSK would endure even after he retires from the IPL.

“Even if MS Dhoni plays on one leg, people will still like to see him play” – Irfan Pathan

CSK CEO confident about Dhoni fitness

Irfan Pathan said: “Definitely not (Will this be his last season?). I met him about a month ago. He had long hair, he is growing his hair. He is going back to the old times and looking supremely fit. For a guy, who is past 40 and still looking so fit. I really hope for his sake, for his franchise’s sake and all the fans’ sake, he continues to play. I said it… obviously, it was over-the-top, even if MS Dhoni plays on one leg, people will still like to see him play.”

Since joining CSK in 2008, Dhoni has become synonymous with the franchise, forging an emotional bond with fans in Chennai that transforms the Chepauk Stadium into a formidable fortress adorned in yellow during home matches. With Dhoni at the helm, CSK sets its sights on securing a record-extending sixth IPL title, bolstered by strategic acquisitions made during the previous year’s auction.

In summary, Pathan’s admiration for Dhoni’s unparalleled fitness and unwavering commitment to CSK underscores the enduring legacy of one of cricket’s most iconic figures. As Dhoni gears up for another season, his impact on the IPL and the adoration of fans serve as a testament to his unparalleled influence in the world of cricket.
